Unfavourable climatic conditions such as heat, frost or high humidity can cause damage of various kinds, for example malfunctions in technical components or damage to storage media.

Frequent fluctuations in climatic conditions exacerbate this effect. Unfavourable climatic conditions can also prevent people from working or even cause injury or death.

Every person and every technical device has a temperature range within which its normal operation or proper functioning is guaranteed. If the ambient temperature exceeds the upper or lower limits of this range, this can lead to work stoppages, malfunctions or device failures.

Windows in server rooms are often opened without permission for ventilation purposes. In the transition period (spring, autumn), large temperature fluctuations can cause the permissible air humidity to be exceeded due to severe cooling the permissible air humidity may be exceeded.

Examples:

• In high summer temperatures and with insufficient cooling, IT equipment may suffer temperature-related failures.

• Too much dust in IT systems can lead to heat build-up.

• Excessively high temperatures can demagnetise magnetic data carriers.
